Before beginning his solo music career as a singer/songwriter and entertainer, this Florida native sang and played lead guitar with notable musicians. At a young age, Billy started playing drums and often jammed with his father and other musicians, performing songs by Hank Williams Sr., George Jones, Merle Haggard, Elvis, and various blues artists such as John Lee Hooker. While he enjoyed playing drums, his primary ambition was to play the guitar. At sixteen, he acquired his first guitar, and by seventeen, he was performing lead guitar for a Southern rock band. During this time, he drew significant inspiration from the sounds of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, the Allman Brothers, The Outlaws, and the Marshall Tucker Band. He played with several bands before forming his own blues/rock band, where he discovered his abilities in singing and songwriting. At this point, his influences included Mack King, Eric Clapton, Frank Marino, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, and others.
